University Curator and Art Collection Staff Speak to JESIE Students

On July 30th, University Curator Lynn Marsden-Atlass lectured on curatorial practice to a group of Chinese students at the Penn Museum. The students are part of a program called JESIE, which stands for “Jiangsu Education Services for International Exchange.” The 38 students came from a variety of universities in Jiangsu Province, China for a 4-week program at the Penn Museum called Discovering the Museum.
Following a 45-minute lecture, the students toured Courtly Treasures: The Collection of Thomas W. Evans, Surgeon Dentist to Napoleon III with Penn Art Collection staff and interns. Following the gallery tour, the students were introduced to several of Penn’s most prominent outdoor sculptures, including Alexander Calder’s Jerusalem Stabile and Robert Indiana’s Love. JESIE Program Manger Chang Li remarked that the “students enjoyed Lynn’s talk and the picture-rich slides were helpful to understand Penn’s rich history in art. They were also amazed by the delicate collections at the Arthur Ross Gallery.”
