Hmong refugees fled Southeast Asia following the defeat of the Lao royalist government at the close of the Vietnam War, and the United States participated in resettling Hmong communities. Textiles such as this wall-hanging demonstrate the Hmong technique of reverse applique. This intricate technique is part of a set of needlework skills known as paj ntaub. This quilt was produced in Penn colors in a pattern known as "elephant's foot."
