Lawrence Tenney Stevens sculpted famed chemist John Harrison to mark the centennial of the chemist's death. Harrison is accredited with producing the first sulfuric acid in Philadelphia in 1793. His humble beginnings as a chemist in his neighborhood drug store eventually blossom into a full scale production plant, which 100 years later was acquired by DuPont. The sculpture had been commissioned by Harrison's grandson, Thomas Skelton Harrison.
Lawrence Tenney Stevens is most well known for his sculpture in the "Cowboy High Style" which depicts stylized features and people of the American West.
