Ernest shaw began his career as a psychiatrist, a profession which would later influence his art. Many of his pieces center on ideas of balancing, re-orienting, and perhaps challenging what one might expect, whether through tricks against gravity, or against conventional ideas of center. In this case, the 3-dimensional prism inverts the the balance, its top-heavy and asymmetrical design nonetheless rooted in place.
