In this painting, Hatian self-taught artist A. LaFontant presents a bucolic landscape scene set against rolling hills with a grassy riverbank in the foreground. Figures can be seen swimming, bathing and splashing while a farmer in the background tends to his land. LaFontant deals with the challenging perspective of this work by flattening the picture plane, so that the bathing figure can be seen completely by the viewer and the vegetation in the field almost reads as an abstract pattern.
