Herbert Bayer, born in Austria in 1900, was one of the Bauhaus School’s most influential students, teachers, and proponents, designing Bauhaus publications and curating two Bauhaus exhibitions, which toured internationally from 1967 to 1971. He was an advocate for the integration of all arts throughout his career, working as an advertising artist, photographer, painter, sculptor, architect, and landscape designer from 1921 to 1925. He went on to become an art director for Vogue magazine in Berlin in 1928, and designed tourist pamphlets for the Third Reich’s hosting of the 1936 Olympic Games. He fled the Nazi regime shortly after, moving to New York to continue his Bauhaus style working as a graphic designer in America for the remainder of his career.
