Philadelphia-born artist Charles Ross has primarily worked in sculpture and earthworks. He was named a Guggenheim Fellow in 2011, 30 years after creating this piece. His star map paintings such as Star Space Daylight: Sun Center by Earth Degree are created with 428 photographs from an atlas of the stars, which cover the entire celestial sphere from pole to pole. The viewpoint of these pieces is that of an observer at the center of earth, creating a connection between humans, the celestial world, earth space, and conceptual space through this artwork.
