Jean Couy was a French painter and printmaker who was best known for tapestry design and book illustration. In Art and the Modern World, Volume 2 (Huyghe and Rudel, 1970), Couy is counted among artists on the side of a “pure synthesis” where the concern of the artist “is no longer to represent a nature imitated, copied, but to fix a perception of the world in the center of the elements.”
