An accomplished American etcher, engraver, and woodcut artist, Jack Coughlin studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and at the Art Students League of New York. Celebrated for his combinations of innovative and traditional techniques during the resurgence of intaglio, lithograph, and woodcut printmaking in the 1960s and 70s, Coughlin taught printmaking at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Owl in Flight was commissioned by the Associated American Artists of New York around 1970 in a sole limited edition of 250 signed and numbered impressions.
