Frank Eckmair created this woodcut print during his career as a professor at Buffalo State College. In addition to printmaking, Eckmair was an accomplished fine paper maker and established Buffalo Prints and Paper, assisting many institutions in the paper maker's art. According to Eckmair’s biography by Brier Hill Gallery, Eckmair organized a paper mill in Costa Rica, where he taught the theories and skills to professional artists from 14 member nations. His distinctive regionalist woodcuts became widely known through his affiliation with Associated American Artists of New York.
