Still Life

Still Life, 1941, Screenprint on Paper
Morris Blackburn (American, 1902 – 1979)

Philadelphia-born artist Morris Blackburn was deeply influenced by his professor at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Arthur B. Carles, who was an advocate for modernism and abstraction.  In this work, Blackburn distills still life elements into their most basic forms, set against a colorful background of overlapping planes.
